What was your musical inspiration?

I like to try and listen to as many kinds of music as I can because I feel good music is an education about how people live there lives. But I guess there was a defining moment when I started listening to artists like Howlin’ Wolf, Lead Belly, and Son House when things changed for me. There’s something about the simplicity of Blues music, of just one man a guitar and a slide, that can create something far more than the sum of their parts, and I find that truly inspiring.

Ben Hemming is a London based singer songwriter, born and raised in the rural midlands. He miss spent his youth hammering away at an old six string guitar and homing the songwriting talent that he has today. His new Album ‘Broken Man’ is out now on ITUNES, apple music, AMAZON, and SPOTIFY.

“On his stunning debut, Broken Man, Hemming is cast as the troubadour. His holler is passionate one minute, world-weary the next as he recalls the blues of the Mississippi delta while capturing the spirit of the beat poets on the road.”

When did you first know you wanted to be a musician?

I guess that’s kind of a hard one to pin down as I’ve playing and singing for most of my life. But sometime in my early teens I think. It’s funny, there’s been times throughout my life when I’ve fallen in and out of love with making music for various reasons, but now I can safely say I’m married to the old girl.

What motivates you to create music?

Music is for me a way of self expression that can’t be defined by words alone, it’s a moment and a feeling that transcends purely langue. It’s one of the most ancient forms of story telling and dates right back to when people first started to communicate. I think that’s something that’s easy to forget when you see how much of a business it’s become.

Where do you imagine yourself in five years?

I have absolutely no idea but as long as involves strumming a tune on my guitar I know I’ll be a truly happy human being.
